VAT Calculator UK

Add VAT to a net price or remove VAT from a VAT inclusive amount. Get a clear breakdown of the net amount, VAT amount and gross total.

£

Enter the amount before VAT is added.

Choose VAT rate

%
Net Amount £100.00
VAT Amount £20.00
Gross Total £120.00

Formula: £100.00 × 20% = £20.00 VAT. Gross total = £120.00.

How this VAT calculator works

To add VAT, the calculator multiplies the net amount by the VAT rate. To remove VAT, it divides the VAT inclusive amount by 1 plus the VAT rate.

For 20% reverse VAT, the correct calculation is gross amount ÷ 1.20, not gross amount minus 20%.

Standard VAT: 20% for most goods and services.
Reduced VAT: 5% for selected goods and services.
Zero Rate: 0% where zero-rated VAT rules apply.
This calculator is for general UK VAT calculations only. VAT treatment can depend on the goods, services, customer, location and circumstances. Speak to a VAT accountant for advice before making tax decisions.
